AWBC Responds to President Biden’s Announcement of 15 New WBCs At The SBA’S Women’s Business Summit
Washington, D.C. – On Monday, March 27-29, 2023, the Association of Women’s Business Centers (AWBC) and Women’s Business Center (WBC) leadership from across the nation partnered with the U.S. Small Business Administration for their second annual Women’s Business Summit. The Summit began with AWBC and WBC leadership attending an event at the White House, where President Biden provided remarks in support of women’s entrepreneurship and announced the addition of 15 WBCs to the national network – bringing the total to 160 WBCs across the nation.
Association of Women’s Business Centers (AWBC) CEO Corinne Goble released the following statement in response to President Biden’s Announcement:
“We celebrate President Biden’s support of the WBC program, his recognition of WBCs’ impact on women entrepreneurs across the nation, and, most notably, his announcement to expand the WBC network by 15 WBCs, bringing the program to 160 WBCs across the nation – the largest network this program has seen to date. We are thrilled to expand our network to include more underserved and rural areas and strengthen our collective capacity providing training, mentoring, business development, and financing opportunities to tens of thousands of women entrepreneurs each year. This addition will provide additional technical assistance for the 33 million small businesses across America, especially the 12 million women-owned small businesses.
This year, the Association of Women’s Business Centers is honored to partner with the Small Business Administration for the second annual Women’s Business Summit. As SBA resource partners, and stewards of information for business owners, we are thankful for the SBA’s commitment to women’s entrepreneurship. Looking ahead, we ask for a bipartisan reauthorization of the WBC program to bring the program into the 21st century and ensure that WBCs have proper resources to best-serve their entrepreneurs.
We are thankful for the expansion of the WBC program and look forward to working alongside the SBA in the next steps of this process.”
